In March 2000, I received my Master's Degree (Diplom) in Computer Science from the University of Karlsruhe (TH), Germany. In the meantime, the university teamed up with a renowned local research institution that was formerly known as Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (FZK), and together they now form the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

My Master's Thesis in the field of "mobile agent security" I completed at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory in Switzerland, where I worked from July 1999 to February 2000 as a Student Researcher.

My Ph.D. (Dr. sc. techn.) in Computer Science I obtained in May 2006 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zürich), Switzerland.

From May 2000 to April 2006, I was a Research Assistant at the Institute for Pervasive Computing at ETH Zürich, where I investigated dependable service infrastructures for ubiquitous computing with special emphasis on RFID-assisted service infrastructures and location-aware systems.

In August 2006, I joined the Wernher von Braun Center for Advanced Research in Brazil, where I currently work on innovative radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions, including RFID systems, protocols, and standards for item tracking, asset localization, access control, anti-counterfeiting, real-time location systems (RTLS), electronic vehicle registration identification (ERI), automated vehicle identification (AVI), and open-road tolling (ORT) / multi-lane free flow (MLFF).
